Rumors are circulating online that the IRS will provide a $725 stimulus payment to eligible citizens who are struggling with the rising cost of living in October 2025. If you’re wondering whether this information is real or fake, you can clear the confusion about the stimulus payment here.

The stimulus payment in the US is offered to support families or individuals struggling with living expenses due to increasing inflation. The last time the government introduced a stimulus payment was during the pandemic in 2020. 

The IRS processed three stimulus payments under the Economic Impact Payment. Now, rumors are circulating that the IRS is preparing to issue another stimulus payment of $725 for citizens. Many third-party websites or social media posts claim it’s been officially announced.

However, the IRS or the US Congress has not made any official statement confirming the distribution of stimulus payments in October 2025. So, until there is an official confirmation on stimulus payments, consider all claims fake.

Why is there confusion about stimulus payments?

The stimulus payments are a great relief for the citizens, hence scammers use this to scam people. In recent years, many rumors have circulated that the government is issuing stimulus payments of $2000, $1390, or $725. 

Earlier this year, the IRS processed the unclaimed 2021 recovery rebate credit for the eligible citizens. This was the last chance for the citizens to get their unclaimed stimulus payments, as a recovery rebate credit was started to clear the unclaimed payments. 

Apart from this, the Alaska government is also distributing the stimulus payments or Permanent Fund dividend from October 2025, which misled the citizens. This is not a federal payment; it is only for eligible Alaskans. Hence, be aware and check before you believe in news or rumors.

The federal government issues the stimulus payment or financial relief for the citizens after approval from the US Congress. The government can’t process such a payment that easily, as there are lots of procedures involved, like passing the bill, and so on.

  • The effect of the payment of the US Treasury
  • Economic Condition of the Nation 
  • Inflation and its effect on the citizens 

Last time, the government introduced the Economic Impact Payment through legislation, and the IRS processed the three stimulus payments to the eligible households and individuals.

The IRS has warned citizens about scammers and any such fraudulent activities multiple times and advised them to always check the IRS official newsroom or website before believing or engaging with any third-party claim, posts, texts, or calls.

 Stimulus payment scams are common; hence, if you receive any text, call, or see any social media post, here’s how you can deal with it:

  • You should never share your personal or financial information with any potential tax scam, and report it to the IRS at the official website for reporting scams or fraud. You can forward the email, notice, social media message, or report other suspicious activities.
  • If you have shared your personal information with a potential scammer or suspect a tax fraud involving you, you should immediately take the following action:
  • If your identity was stolen, report the identity theft to IdentityTheft.gov, or you can also report it to your state tax agency. 
  • If your SSN or ITIN was misused, you should report it to the IRS or state tax agency.
  • You should immediately stop all your transactions to protect your money from unauthorized transactions after your financial information was leaked. 

The stimulus payment rumors circulating online are not real, so stay protected and never engage with any claims, and always check the official sources. website if you come across any such claim.
