Canadians with dependent children can receive the monthly payment under the Canada Child Benefit and meet their children’s needs if they are struggling with living expenses. The government understands that raising a child can be costly; hence, such a benefit was initiated.

The government adjusts the benefit annually based on inflation to ensure it matches the current cost of living. The benefit for applicants may vary as it depends on the age of the child, the number of children, and the adjusted family income in the last year’s return.

The CCB payout for the FY July 2025 to June 2026 was out, and based on the announcement, the following maximum benefit any recipient can receive when the AFNI is under $37,487:

Who will receive the Canada Child Benefit 2025?

If you meet the following eligibility requirements of the Canada Child Benefit, you can claim the benefit for your child:

  • The child’s age should be under 18, and you are responsible for the upbringing and care of the child.
  • You must be a Canadian resident for tax purposes and living in the country.
  • You or your legal partner must be a permanent citizen/Canadian citizen, protected person/ temporary resident who lived for the past 18 months in the country/registered under the Indian Act.
  • You cannot receive the CCB payout for the foster kid when the Children’s Special Allowance is paid.

How does your income affect your Canada Child Benefit 2025?

Your adjusted family income affects your Canada Child Benefit payout. As mentioned earlier, you will receive the maximum payout if your AFNI is under $37,487, so if the payment exceeds this limit, your CCB payout will start to reduce, and it will completely phase out at $81,222.

You can learn about AFNI and its effect on your payment, and see how much your payment would be reduced, if it exceeds the value of $37,487:

What changes must you report to continue receiving your payments?

The Canadians receiving the CCB must report the necessary changes to the CRA that can affect their payment; otherwise, if they receive too much, they may have to repay it to the CRA. Here are the situations that you must report to the CRA for CCB payout:

  • Your AFNI changes
  • Marital status changes
  • Number of children (a new member)
  • Child turning 18
  • Child turning 6
  • Child custody arrangement change
  • Address change
  • Residency status change
  • Death report

Remember, if you don’t file your tax return every year, you will not receive the Canada Child Benefit, so file the return, even if you have no income to report.

Canada Child Benefit 2025 Schedule

CRA processes the Canada Child Benefit payment to applicants when their total amount is above $240 for a month; if it is less than $240, eligible recipients will receive the lump sum payment in July. The agency typically processes the CCB payout on the 20th of the month, but the date may change due to a public holiday or weekend.
