The Canada Revenue Agency confirmed the Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security, and Guaranteed Income Supplement for the eligible seniors. If you wish to get any of the benefits, you can check the full details of all three benefits here.
CPP OAS & GIS Payments Confirmed for Everyone
The Canadian government supports the elderly after their retirement with a pension and retirement income through benefits, such as CPP, OAS, and GIS. All three payments are paid each month; however, the CPP payment is adjusted annually, whereas the other two are quarterly adjusted.
The CRA has confirmed the OAS and GIS payment for the next quarter, beginning in October 2025 and continuing to December 2025. The 0.7% adjustment was confirmed based on the CPI of the recent and the last quarter.
Now, if you wish to receive these benefits, you can check the eligibility, payment amount, application, and other details for each benefit further in the article.
Canada Pension Plan
You receive the CPP benefit if you have made contributions to the Canada Pension Plan while working and reached the retirement age.
Eligibility:
- The minimum age for the pension is 60 years old, and you must have contributed to the COO while working or from the credit you received after being divorced or separated from your legal partner.
Payment Amount:
- Your payment depends on your age, the average earnings throughout your work life, or the contributions you made.
- The maximum CPP pension you can receive in a month is $1433, though it can be reduced depending on your situation.
Application Process:
- When you reach the retirement age, you can apply to Services Canada in the following steps:
- Visit the Services Canada page for the CPP at https://www.canada.ca/ and go to Benefits, followed by public pensions, and then CPP.
- Next, come to the Apply section, and click the Apply button for the online application.
- Next, sign in to your CRA account with the option that suits you, or if you don’t have an account, you can create one.
- Once you are signed in, you can access the CPP application and submit it with the relevant documents for CRA to review.
Old Age Security
If you do not qualify for the CPP, you can opt for the Old Age Security pension because it is a non-contributory benefit, though the CPP recipients can also receive this payment if they qualify for it.
Eligibility:
- Your age must be 65 or older, and you must be living in Canada as a legal resident for a minimum of 10 years after you attained the age of 18.
- If you are not living in Canada, but are 65 or older, were a legal resident, or stayed for at least 20 years after you turned 18 before you left the country.
Payment Amount:
- The OAS payment for October to December 2025 has increased by 0.7%, so you will receive the following payout:
Age | Annual Income | Amount |
65 to 74 | Below $148,451 | $740.09 |
75 or above | Below $154,196 | $184.11 |
Application Process:
- If your enrollment information is saved with Services Canada, you do not need to do anything, as you will receive the benefit letter on your 64th Birthday, and you will be enrolled for the OAS benefit.
- However, if you do not get the letter or wish to change your information, you can do it through My Service Canada Account online or mail the filled Application form (SP-3550) OAS and GIS.
