Amazon will refund its Prime customers who weren’t able to cancel their subscription under the Federal Trade Commission settlement. If you believe you are a part of this settlement, you can find everything about the Amazon $2.5 billion settlement here.
Amazon $1.5B FTC Refund
The Federal Trade Commission announced on 25 September 2025 that Amazon will pay a $2.5 billion settlement fund for deceptively enrolling customers for a Prime subscription and making it hard for them to cancel their subscription.
The settlement will pay compensation to the affected customers of $1.5 billion, and the remaining $1 billion is the fine paid as a civil penalty by the e-commerce giant for their unlawful practices.
This settlement is the FTC’s second-highest refund delivered to the affected customers. The FTC and Amazon are yet to release the settlement website; hence, the customers who need to file a claim have to wait for the website and file the settlement within 180 days.
Who will receive the Amazon FTC refund?
If you meet the following eligibility criteria, you can claim the FTC refund under the Amazon settlement:
- You must have subscribed to the Amazon Prime membership between 23 June 2019 and 23 June 2025.
- You have taken action to cancel your Prime Subscription, but are unable to do so during the class period.
- Only US customers can apply for this settlement as it is being investigated by the FTC.
- If you have subscribed to Amazon Prime through the Challenged enrollment flow documents, you can also claim the refund.
How much refund will you receive from the Amazon $1.5B?
Amazon customers who meet the settlement conditions will receive the payment from the $1.5 billion fund in two ways: one automatic payment, and the other through the claiming process. According to the FTC, the eligible customers can expect a payment of $51 in either process.
The payment amount for each affected customer will be based on the Amazon subscription they paid for the Primer membership during the duration of their subscription in the class period. So, once the settlement website is available, you can check the refund amount and other factors.
How can you claim the Amazon FTC refund?
As mentioned earlier, the Amazon FTC refund will be processed in two ways to ensure every affected customer receives the compensation. So, if you are an Amazon customer meeting the eligibility conditions, learn the settlement distribution process and claiming process below:
Automatic Payments:
- The authorities will distribute the automatic compensation in the first phase to the customers who were enrolled in Prime membership through “Challenged Enrollment Flow” and use the membership benefits three or fewer times in a year.
- The Challenged Enrollment flow means you have subscribed via the Shipping option page, Universal Prime decision page, Prime video enrollment flow, and single-page checkout.
- The automatic payments will be processed to the eligible customers within 90 days of the FTC official order.
Claim Process:
- Customers who signed up for the Prime membership through the challenged enrollment flow and couldn’t cancel the subscription, and used more than 10 membership benefits in a year, need to file the claim form once the settlement website is available.
- Within 30 days of processing the automatic payment, Amazon will release the claim form.
- The authority will send you the settlement website link through email, and you have to file the claim and send it to Amazon through email, first-class pre-paid mail, or through the settlement website within 180 days.
- Remember, Amazon customers who have received automatic payments will not receive the payment through the claim process.
When can you expect your Amazon FTC refund?
The automatic Amazon refund to eligible customers will be delivered in 90 days; however, the customers who will be claiming the settlement will need to wait longer. According to the FTC, after the claim forms are filed, Amazon will take 30 days to review the claim forms.
Once Amazon determines your eligibility for the settlement and approves it, you can expect to receive the $51 refund from the authority in 2026, as an automatic payment will only take three months.
The FTC reveals Amazon’s subscription trap and tricks, and estimated that over 35 million customers were affected. The commission also directs the e-commerce giant to make the subscription cancellation and enrollment process more transparent for the customers.
