Cash App Security Settlement Payout Date
Back in August 2023, a class action lawsuit was filed against Cash App and Block that alleges the company was negligent and failed to properly protect users’ information, which reads:
- A data breach disclosed in April 2022 (Cash App Investing),
- A data breach disclosed in October 2023 (Block, Inc.), and
- Unauthorized withdrawals, fraudulent transfers, and poor complaint resolution processes.
After the lawsuit, both parties agreed with the settlement—it gets the preliminary approval on June 3, 2024. After that the claim form was available up to November 18, 2025.
The hearing for the final approval took place on January 13, 2025, and the settlement got the final approval on March 17, 2025.
Following the final approval, there were many appeals as of October 2025—they are about to be resolved. So, we can expect the payout probably in January/February 2026.
How much will be received?
The total fund of the settlement is $15 million; out of this total, around 30% will go to attorneys’ fees, and a few hundred to a few thousand dollars are deducted for litigation costs, service awards, and settlement administration costs.
Around $10 million is expected to be distributed among the class members; the payment will firstly go to the individuals who have claimed out-of-pocket expenses, and then those who have claimed lost time will get it.
After payout for the out-of-pocket expenses and lost time, if funds remain with the settlement administrator, they will be distributed among the other claimants on a pro rata basis.
Note that one who has claimed the out-of-pocket expenses is expected to get up to $2,500, and for the ‘lost time,’ the payout will go for up to 3 hours with the hourly rate of $25, i.e., the maximum payment one can get from the ‘lost time’ claim is $75.
Who will get the payment?
The payment from the $15 million Cash App security settlement will be received bythose individuals who have submitted the valid claim form by the due date.
Note that the settlement administrator will send the payment to you only if you have provided the required proof. If you have claimed something that didn’t happen to you, there is a high chance that your claim is rejected.
To get the payout, there is an additional requirement—that is, opting for the payment method with accurate details. If there is any problem with the payment method you choose, you may not get the payout.
If you opted to get the payout from the settlement fund via paper check, you will receive it in the mailbox at your home. If you have chosen to get the payment via direct deposit, you will directly receive it in your bank account.
The paper check will be received within a week after the release, and the direct deposit will arrive in the bank account on the same date within a few hours.
Can I check my claim form status?
Yes, you can easily check the Cash App Security Settlement claim form status through the settlement portal. To do so, you are required to go to the menu bar and tap on the Menu option.
Now, you will see an option that reads ‘Contact Settlement Administrator.’ Hit on it, and select the category as Getting More Information, and then the topic as Other.
A text message box will be before you. Here, you need to enter your name, email, and phone number. Choose “reason” as “status,” and then write a message about check the status of the claim form, and hit the “Submit” button.
