Flint Water Crisis Engineering Firm Settlement: $53M Payout for Residents!

The U.S. Attorney General’s Office in Michigan has announced a $53 million settlement for the Flint Water Crisis, which will be paid by the Engineering firm Veolia North America. If you are affected by the Flint Water Crisis, you can check the full details here.

Flint Water Crisis Engineering Firm Settlement

The engineering firm, Veolia North America, was asked to pay $53 million to resolve the civil settlement alleging that the company contributed to the Flint Water Crisis, which happened 10 years ago. The State of Michigan gave its judgment on the Flint Water Crisis settlement in February 2025, ending future and current litigation against the firm.

The lawsuit was brought by the Michigan State and determined that around 26,000 individuals will be eligible to receive the payout under this settlement. The state wishes that this will provide some relief to the people who were affected, especially children.

This settlement was announced after 5 years of the largest civil settlement, that is, $600 million over the Flint Water Crisis against the State of Michigan, McLaren Hospital, City of Flint, and Rowe Engineering.

What is the Engineering firm settlement about?

The Attorney General Dana Nessel announced the settlement against the Engineering firm, though not agree with the allegations. The firm agreed to pay for the settlement to resolve and avoid the litigation. The allegations that the State OF Michigan charged Veolia and the settlement guidelines are as follows:

  • The AG claims the firm failed to identify the corrosion control treatment problems during the water crisis, which prolonged and exacerbated the water crisis.
  • The water crisis in Flint City started in 2014 when the Flint River was switched as the city’s water source.
  • VNA says the City of Flint hired them as the consultant 10 months after the switch, and conducted the one-week assessment for carcinogens.
  • The firm says they also received the results from the government officials that water has specific lead standards, and the company never participated in the water treatment plan.

Who will receive the Flint Water Crisis Engineering Firm settlement?

Under the settlement against the VNA, the engineering firm, the payout will be sent to the following people:

  • People who were already part of the Flint Water Crisis settlement and affected due to the contaminated water, especially children.
  • The Flint Residents will receive the payout under this settlement if they were directly affected by the crisis.

How much can you expect to receive through the Flint Water Crisis settlement?

The settlement has not announced the per-person payout for the eligible Flint residents from the $53 million settlement.
