Ontarians receive the Ontario Trillium Benefit from the CRA every month on behalf of the Ontario government to offset energy, sales, and property taxes. If you are an Ontarian, eligible for the OTB benefit, and are wondering about the December 2025 payment, you can check the payout dates here with other information.
The OTB benefit has three credits: Ontario Sales Tax Credit, Northern Ontario Energy Credit, and Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit, so if you qualify for any of them, you are eligible to receive the OTB payout.
The maximum payout from the OTB benefits is possible when you qualify for all three credits and receive the highest payout. The benefit is a tax-free payment to offer some relief to Ontarians with the rising cost of living, and giving back the money through taxes.
When can you expect your OTB payment for December 2025?
The CRA processes OTB payments generally on the 10th day of the month; however, if the tenth day falls on a weekend or a public holiday, it will be shifted to the nearest business day before the payment date. The agency has published the yearly calendar for the CRA benefit payments, where you can check the payment dates for any benefit.
According to the CRA benefit payment dates calendar, Ontarians who are waiting for the next OTB payment can expect the December 2025 payment on the following date:
- 10 December 2025
How much will you receive under the OTB payments?
Your final payment for the OTB depends on the number of credits you qualified for; hence, the final payment may vary from one recipient to another. The OTB payments depend on your age, income, amount paid in property or rent tax, and family size.
Here you can check the OTB payments based on each credit payout, depending on the different factors:
- Ontario Sales Credit:
- You can get a payout of up to $371, and if you have a spouse or common-law partner or dependent child, you may receive an additional credit of $371.
- Ontario Energy and Property Tax Credit:
- If your age is between 18 and 64 years, when you qualify for OEPTC, you will receive a maximum payout of $1283.
- If you are an elderly of 65 or above, you can receive a payout of $1461.
- If you live in a designated college residence, university, or a private school hostel or residence in 2024, you will get the maximum payout of $25.
- If you live in a public long-term care home or reserve, you would receive the payout of $285.
- Northern Ontario Energy Credit:
- If you are an individual living in Northern Ontario, you will receive a payout of up to $185.
- The families living in Northern Ontario qualifying for the NOEC can receive the maximum payment of $285.
What can affect your OTB December 2025 payment?
The OTB benefit is not taxable; however, you should know what can affect your OTB payout to avoid any mistakes:
- If your family size changes, like someone dying or you having a new child in the family, that can affect the payout rate.
- You have not applied for any of the three credits on your tax return, which can make you lose your credit.
- If your payment is $360 or less, you will only receive a single payment at the start of the financial year, that is, July.
- If your calculated payment is $2 or less, you will not receive any payment at all.
What should you do if your December 2025 OTB payment is not received?
The CRA processes the OTB payment on time, typically, on the 10th day of the month; however, if for some reason, you did not receive the payout by 24th of the 24th of July ( if you qualify or chose the one-time payment), you must contact the CRA regarding it.
- You can reach out to the CRA through your myCRA account and raise an inquiry on the OTB missing payment, or check what happened to your payout.
- You can call the CRA toll-free number at 1800-958-8281 and ask about the missing payment.
- You can visit the nearest local CRA office and ask the officer about the OTB payments process.
The OTB payment is processed every month for the eligible Ontarians to support them and offer some relief from the property or sales tax, or rising energy costs.
