There is good news for South Africans who receive the Social grants from SASSA, as their grant payments will increase from October 2025. SASSA has confirmed the increase and payment dates for October; if you are a recipient, get all the details here.
SASSA October 2025 Payments
The South African Social Security Agency supports vulnerable groups struggling with the rising cost of living through various social grants, depending on their circumstances. The Minister of Finance has announced the increase in grant payments in his 2025-26 Budget Speech.
The agency released an official notice on September 25, 2025, regarding the increase in grant amounts for the October cycle. Based on the notice, the government sanctioned an increase of R10 in all grants except Social Relief of Distress (SRD).
So, if you receive any Social grants from SASSA, here’s your new payment amount from the October 2025 Payment cycle:

| Old Age Grants | R2320 |
| Old Age Grants (older than 75 years) | R2340 |
| War Veterans Grant | R2340 |
| Care Dependency Grant | R2320 |
| Disability Grant | R2320 |
SASSA October 2025 Payment Date
SASSA has also confirmed the payment dates for the October 2025 grant payments with the notice of increased payments. So, mark your calendar for the October 2025 Social grant payment dates:
| Social Grants | Payment Dates |
| Old Age Grant | 02 October 2025 |
| Disability Grant | 03 October 2025 |
| Children’s Grant | 06 October 2025 |
The payment date for the SRD grant will be published later, as it is processed in the last 10 days of the month. The agency requests that beneficiaries access their payout at their convenience, not on the same day, to avoid long queues and traffic on the payment sites.
The agency strives to process the grants without any issues for the eligible recipients whose application is approved and verified.
What can delay your SASSA payments?
SASSA started the review process a few months ago to ensure all the beneficiaries receiving grants are authentic and to reduce fraudulent activities. Beneficiaries who were notified to get their grants reviewed and whose applications are under review have faced a delay in their payments.
So, many recipients have been wondering if their payment will be delayed. Here you can check the common reasons that can delay your SASSA payments:
- Multiple bank accounts: If you have multiple bank accounts, you must update your information on the SASSA centres to avoid getting your payment delayed.
- Bank Account Verification: If your bank account is not verified with the agency, your payment might get delayed.
- Pending application: If your social grant application is pending, your payment will be delayed until your application is approved.
- Suspicious activity: If the agency suspects your social grant application of any fraudulent or suspicious activities, the agency will halt your payment process until the full investigation is complete and your application is approved.
If you do not receive your Social grants on time, you can call the toll-free number 0800 60 1011 and inquire about the missing payments. If you need more information regarding your SASSA payments, you can contact the SASSA Spokesperson through email PaskeL@sassa.gov.za or call 082 883 9969.
Will you receive your payment via Postbank?
The agreement between SASSA and Postbank was scheduled to be terminated on 30 September 2025. However, termination is halted at the eleventh hour following the High Court ruling.
Following the U-turn on termination, Postbank announced on Tuesday that the agreement is still active, and the recipients with Gold Cards or Postbank Black cards can receive their social grants on time without any disruption.
The gold cards will continue to function until they are replaced with Black cards in the next 15 months. SASSA is urging the beneficiaries to switch to the private banks before the termination; however, now you do not need to switch immediately, and you can continue to enjoy your grants.
The South African government strives to help vulnerable groups in society, dealing with financial burden through increased payment amounts. Recipients should mark the payment dates and see the boosted payment reflected on their account from October 2025, so be ready and check if you received your entitled payment or not.
